Phu Quoc itinerary for 5 days 4 nights (updated 2023)

The following Phu Quoc 5-day 4-night itinerary would be enough for you to discover some highlights in Phu Quoc, from the North to the South of Phu Quoc, from the Vietnam’ s largest semi-wild animal care and conservation park Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc, the Vietnam’s first-ever sleepless city Phu Quoc United Center to beautiful beaches in southern Phu Quoc and the World’s longest sea cable car system Hon Thom cable car.

Below is the detailed Phu Quoc itinerary for 5 days 4 nights that I made during my last trip this year.

Day 1: Visit Dai beach, Grand World, enjoy Quintessence of Vietnam show and Color of Venice water music show

On the first day of Phu Quoc itinerary, we took an early morning flight from Ho Chi Minh to Phu Quoc. The flight lasts 1 hour only. After taking luggage, we took a taxi from Phu Quoc airport to a hotel in Ganh Dau, in northern Phu Quoc. It takes about 50 minutes by car for about 35 km distance. It cost 22 usd. Our first destination in Phu Quoc is Ganh Dau which is the furthest region of Phu Quoc island comparing to Phu Quoc airport.

In fact, there are three ways to go from Phu Quoc airport to Northern Phu Quoc. You can choose one of them which is suitable for you.

How to go from Phu Quoc airport to Ganh Dau

Option 1: By taxi

Taking a taxi is very easy at the airport. Taxi is fast and convenient but it is quite expensive if you travel alone. To save money, you can gather some people at the airport to take a taxi.

Option 2: By free shuttle bus operated by Vinpearl Phu Quoc

Vinpearl Phu Quoc free shuttle bus starts at Phu Quoc international airport and its last stop is Vinpearl Safari and vice versa. The Vinpearl Phu Quoc shuttle bus runs from Monday to Sunday from 08:00 to 22:20 every day.

Departure time at Phu Quoc international airport: 08:00, 08:30, 11:00, 12:00

Note:

• Shuttle bus timetables may subject to change in realistic situations. You can call via VinWonders Phu Quoc hotline no. 1900 6677 (#2) to get the latest update on bus schedules.
• This shuttle bus is easily recognized by the cover of the bus with images of Phu Quoc United Center accompanied with its name.
• There are 2 shuttle buses to Sol beach/ Muong Thanh/ Novotel Duong Dong town which are: bus at 17: 40 and 19:40.
• For Vinpearl Safari – Phu Quoc airport route, passengers can stop at Duong Dong town on request.
• VinWonders Phu Quoc bus timetable and Vinpearl Safari bus timetable are the same bus. Both places are so close in 10 minutes by bus. To use Vinpearl Phu Quoc bus effectively, you should visit Vinpearl Safari in the morning, then after the noon, take the bus to VinWonders Phu Quoc to spend your time in the afternoon, and watch Once show in the evening there.
• You should read the bus timetables above carefully to adjust your adaptable itinerary.

Option 3: Renting a motorbike from the airport driving directly to the hotel

You can rent a motorbike at Phu Quoc airport and then discover Phu Quoc island from the north to the south.

Hotel to stay in Ganh Dau

We chose Vinholidays Fiesta Phu Quoc to stay as it is a new hotel which was just built in 2020 and the price is very affordable with a 3.5 star rated hotel. The room is very clean, new, and large. One thing that we really like about this hotel is its location. It is very close to Grand World, just about 2-3 minutes by walk to Grand World. It is so convenient to watch the Color of Venice water music show which starts quite late at 9:30pm.

Besides, from Vinholidays Fiesta Phu Quoc hotel, we can easily go to popular landmarks such as VinWonders Phu Quoc 2.0 km, Vinpearl Safari 3.1 km, Ganh Dau cape beach 3.1km, Dai beach 1.1km. This hotel is so convenient and affordable. To be sure that this hotel would be in my hotel lists for my upcoming Phu Quoc itinerary.

Dai beach (bãi Dài)

Dai beach is not so far from the hotel. Just 7–10-minute walk, you can swim on soft white sand.

Grand World Phu Quoc

Grand World Phu Quoc, Vietnam’s first-ever sleepless city, a part of Phu Quoc United Center. You will not be bored when there are many landscapes for you to visit such as: Teddy Bear Museum, Bamboo House, Urban Park, Venice canal, Quintessence of Vietnam show, Color of Venice water music show, seafood night market.

Teddy Bear Museum

There are more than 500 Teddy bears displayed in Teddy Bear Museum those size is 1.500 square meters. This is the first Teddy Bear Museum in Vietnam.

Bamboo House

Bamboo Legend masterpiece was made from 32.000 tops of bamboo and it is considered the Vietnam’s biggest bamboo house. It is open free for everyone.

Urban Park

Urban Park is a modern art park in Grand World Phu Quoc with many unique art works between nature. These art works attract lots of tourists such as: Water hair, Mother of Earth, Son of Earth, there is a two -floor Observation Tower 12 meters high for tourists to get a panorama of the park.

Urban Park is designed by IRMS, a famous consulting agent that make a great success of many well-known projects over the world such as Universal Studios, Genting…

The Urban Park is open with free admission.

Venice Phu Quoc

At Grand World Phu Quoc, you can visit a miniature of Venice Italy in Phu Quoc, where you can experience a cruise on a traditional Gondola along Phu Quoc Venice canal and seeing beautiful colorful houses. Taking a cup of coffee at one of coffee shops belong colorful houses at Grand World Phu Quoc while listening to Italian romantic music would be so cool.

Quintessence of Vietnam show

A Vietnamese culture experience via “The quintessence of Vietnam” show is a must to see when staying in Phu Quoc. The show takes place on a huge stage with the area of over 11,200m2, having more than 300 actors and actresses and using the world-class advanced stage technology. Through 4 chapters with 12 performances, the finest cultural values of Vietnam throughout “thousand years of civilization” have been beautifully recreated, from the legend of the descendants of Dragon and Fairy, the ordinary village life to the tradition of fondness for learning, appreciating talents, honoring Vietnamese spirit.

Color of Venice water music show 

A night entertainment activity that tourists to Phu Quoc should not miss is the Color of Venice water music show in Grand World. The colors of Venice is considered as the Vietnam’s largest floating multimedia show The quintessence of European culture inspired the organizer with this show. This show is about romantic love story between a talented painter and a beautiful young lady in Venice.

Time of show: 9:30pm in Love Lake in Grand World Phu Quoc

You know, as per our itinerary, we just planned to see the Color of Venice water music show once. But luckily, our hotel are so close that area. Therefore, we had chance to see it twice. 🙂 . This show is also one of our most favorite shows in our Phu Quoc itinerary.

Day 2: Visit Vinpearl Safari and Vin Wonders, enjoy Once show, the Color of Venice water music show

On the 2nd day of the itinerary, I decided to visit Vinpearl Safari and Vin Wonders within a day. As per the recommendation of hotel receptionist, there was a promotion for these 2 attractions during my trip. So, I decided to buy a combo ticket at a ticket counter in front of Vinpearl Safari main gate. At that time, I bought two combo tickets Vinpearl Safari and Vin Wonders. I paid for an adult ticket 1 million VND and got a free meal voucher worth 200.000 VND, and paid for the elderly ticket 750.000 VND and got a free meal voucher worth 100.000 VND.

Therefore, do not forget to ask your hotel receptionist to get update on any promotion programs. You can choose to buy these tickets with free meal voucher at the Vinpearl Safari ticket counter or buy online here or here.

Vinpearl Safari

How to get there

In Ganh Dau, there are two main means of transportation including tuktuk and taxi.

Most hotels in Ganh Dau provide tuktuk service to transport their guests to public entertainment venues. It costs 50.000 VND/ round-trip transfer/1 person. Because of limited numbers of tuktuk, you must book in advance with the receptionist. It takes about 25-30 minutes from the hotel in Ganh Dau to Vinpearl Safari. You should choose the tuktuk departing at the earliest time such as 07:30 or 08:00 so that you have enough time to discover Vinpearl Safari in the morning.

As I asked the receptionist too late, the early tuk-tuks were full of passengers. Therefore, I took a taxi from the hotel to Vinpearl Safari by taxi. It cost 100.000 VND.

• Safari Park and Bird area

You can explore the wild habitat of many rare species such as Bengal tigers, leopards, lions, white rhinoceros, … Besides, you can see more than 2.000 colorful birds like Macaw, crowned crane, red-crowned crane, scarlet ibis, grey-headed swamphen, lesser adjutant, and innumerable other birds and 20 rare primate species such as chimpanzees, and yellow-cheeked gibbons here.

Note:

• Vinpearl Safari is quite large with an area of 380 ha. Therefore, you should take an electric car inside the park to visit all areas in the morning. This electric car is very convenient when you can hop in – hop off any time you want.
• Electric car costs 100.000 VND/ person

After visiting principal areas in Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc, we had lunch at Giraffe restaurant there by using our free meal voucher. While eating, we could see giraffes and fed them. It was an interesting experience.

Then, we left Vinpearl Safari at around 13:10 to go to the shuttle bus station outside Vinpearl Safari, just about 200 meters. There is a free shuttle bus at 13:30 from Vinpearl Safari to Vin Wonders. This is a crowded bus and many people had to stand. (You can view the Shuttle bus timetable for Vinpearl Safari – Phu Quoc airport route above to not miss the bus). At 13:40, we arrived at Vin Wonders Phu Quoc.

Vin Wonders Phu Quoc

Opening time: 09:00-19:30 everyday

Place: Ganh Dau, Phu Quoc island.

Ticket prices:

You can buy a single ticket to visit only Vin Wonder Phu Quoc or a combo ticket to visit both Vin Wonder & Vinpearl Safari Phu Quoc within a day depending on your time.

You can choose to buy tickets at ticket counters or buying online at Klook or Vin Wonders website. Each website and the ticket counter have different promotions while buying these tickets.

Note:

• At Vin Wonders Phu Quoc, you can swim at the Water Park, or discover sea creatures in one of the five largest aquariums in the world, or experience outdoor adventurous games at Adventure World,…
• While watching Once show, you should not seat near the stage because the fire is sometimes used during the show. I could feel the heat from fire when seating not close the stage.

After the show, we took a taxi to the hotel. It costs 70.000 VND.  At that moment, I didn’t know the free bus timetable well. If I would know, I can take the last free bus at 19:40 from Vin Wonders Phu Quoc to Grand World where my hotel is not far from. After a dinner at the night market there, you can watch Color of Venice water music show again at 09:30 pm, then walking back to the hotel to relax.

Day 3: Visit Ganh Dau beach, Ganh Dau cape, Duong Dong town, Cau temple, Phu Quoc night market

On the 3rd day of Phu Quoc itinerary, we did exercises a little bit by walking from the hotel Vinholidays Fiesta Phu Quoc to Dai beach in the early morning.

The Vinholidays Fiesta Phu Quoc hotel is just 8 minutes by walk from the Dai beach. The beach here is so clean and peaceful. There are also swings hung on the pines along the beach. It’s so romantic to read books or chatting with the beloved ones and enjoy the peace of the beach while sitting on the swings or you can swim there. Then, you come back to the hotel, having a breakfast, packing your luggage and check out the hotel and leave your luggage there.

Ganh Dau beach, Ganh Dau cape

From Vinholidays Fiesta Phu Quoc  hotel to Ganh Dau cape is 7,4km. You can take a taxi to go to Ganh Dau cape.

Ganh dau beach is next to Ganh Dau cape. Visiting these places in the early morning or in the afternoon to see sunset is also beautiful. Specially, you can meet local fishers coming back from the sea with a full of fishes on their boats. The water in the beach is crystal clear blue with white sand.

After visiting Ganh Dau beach and Ganh Dau cape in the morning, you come back the hotel, taking luggage, and depart to Duong Dong town by taxi or by free shuttle bus. If you take a bus, you should check the time of shuttle bus leaves. (Please view the Shuttle bus timetable for Vinpearl Safari – Phu Quoc airport route above for more details). The distance between the hotel in Grand World and Duong Dong town is 17.7 km, about 30 – 35 minutes by taxi. It costs 300.000 VND by taxi.

Where to stay in Duong Dong town

Duong Dong is the most densely populated town as well as the administrative center of Phu Quoc. While spending time in Duong Dong town, I stayed at L’Azure Resort and Spa Phu Quoc for 2 nights because it is in the city center, 1.1km away from Phu Quoc night market and free airport transfer (2 ways) with an affordable price for a 4.5 star rated resort compared to the others. Furthermore, the room is clean, new, modern with beautiful swimming pool facing public beach. One more thing I like is that this hotel is located in Tran Hung Dao street, the main street leading to An Thoi cable car station for further visiting Hon Thom famous island. It is also close to the free shuttle bus station of Vinpearl. So, L’Azure Resort and Spa Phu Quoc is my favourite resort in Phu Quoc.

Cau temple (Dinh Cậu)

Opening time: 07:00 – 20:30 everyday

Entrance ticket: free

Address: Khu pho 2, Duong Dong town, Phu Quoc island, Kien Giang province

Built in 1937 on an odd-shaped slab of big stone facing the sea and Duong Dong Lighthouse, Dinh Cau is a sacred temple where fishermen often go to there to worship and pray to the God of Sea for the safety before each fishing excursion. Next to the temple is Phu Quoc beach where local people come here to swim. From the rooftop terrace of Cau temple, you can see Phu Quoc international port. Seeing sunset on the ocean from here is so beautiful. So, you do not miss it.

Phu Quoc night market

Just 1.1 km away from the L’Azure Resort and Spa Phu Quoc in the city center of Phu Quoc, Phu Quoc night market attract a lot of tourists. There are many seafood stalls and many kinds of drink. However, food is quite expensive here.

While visiting Phu Quoc night market, I was very happy to find out a delicious rice kiosk. The main meal is Cơm tấm sườn, bì chả (Grilled pork, shredded pork, crab patty on white rice). It is delicious and cheap, only 35.000 VND. Here is the address of the rice kiosk.

Day 4: Taking the world’s longest sea cable car system and exploring Hon Thom island

On the last day in the itinerary in Phu Quoc, we discovered the South of Phu Quoc. After having breakfast at the resort, we prepared some swimsuits to swim and play at the water park Aquatoria in Hon Thom island. At 07:30 we drove a motorbike to head towards to An Thoi station to take a Hon Thom cable car, the world’s longest three-string sea cable car system, 7.899,9 meters long.

The distance from L’Azure Resort and Spa Phu Quoc in Duong Dong town to An Thoi cable car station is 26km. It takes around 45 minutes by motorbike. The first trip of Hon Thom cable car in the morning is at 09:00. So, you should depart earlier to catch this trip because the next trip is one hour and a half later, at 10:30. Hon Thom island is a large island with many entertainment activities of Sun World Hon Thom Nature Park such as: swimming at beautiful beaches, playing adventurous games, water slide ride. You know, riding water slides at the water park was one of the most favourite things in our Phu Quoc itinerary.

Please note that from June 2022, Sun World Hon Thom Nature Park changed its name into Sun World Phu Quoc.

Where to buy tickets 

You can go to ticket counters at An Thoi cable car station, in An Thoi town to buy Hon Thom cable car tickets.

However, to avoid a long queue before the ticket counters, you can buy tickets online here.

This helps you to save time and buy a cheaper ticket than buying offline due to a good discount while booking online.

I bought Hon Thom cable car tickets online at Klook one day before departure date of visiting Sun World Phu Quoc with 540.000 VND only. Therefore, I had more free time to visit An Thoi cable car station which was beautifully designed with ancient Roman architecture.

Please note that An Thoi cable car station opens at 07:30 every day. There is a big parking under the station and free parking.

Below are ticket prices for Hon Thom cable car (two ways)

In case you want to have a lunch at Hon Thom island, it would be more beneficial when you buy a combo ticket of Hon Thom cable car and lunch buffet. The lunch restaurant ends at 14:00.

How to get An Thoi cable car station from Duong Dong town

It is very easy to go from Duong Dong town to An Thoi cable car station. You just follow Tran Hung Dao street, go along the beach on the right of this route. This street leads you to An Thoi town. Then you can see a new town with beautiful color houses. At the end of this town is An Thoi cable car station.

Hon Thom island

In Hon Thom island, you should first visit Trao beach (Bãi Trào), a beautiful beach, as it is not too hot at 9:30. There is a free electric car to transfer you to the beach. At Trao Beach, you can use free water moto whenever you want, unlimited time (you just ask the moto keeper on the beach).

Note:

• There is a backpack keeping service. The price is 30.000 vnd/ 1 cabinet. You can choose leave your luggage at your free chair.
• The last trip of Hon Thom cable car is 17:00 and the close time of the water park or beaches in Hon Thom island is 16:30. So, you need to come back before that time. Usually, the last trips are so crowded and tourists make a long queue at Hon Thom station to come back to An Thoi town.
• If you rent a motorbike, you need to check time to rent it (24 hours from the time to get the motorbike or a whole day from the morning until midnight).
• It takes about 20 minutes from An Thoi station to Hon Thom station by Hon Thom cable car.

After coming back to the hotel from An Thoi town, we just relaxed at the hotel as our itinerary of the 4th day was quite tight.

Day 5: Flight from Phu Quoc to Ho Chi Minh

After getting up early, having breakfast, packing luggage, you can check out the hotel. The hotel provides free transfer to the airport but you should notify them the time of your flight departure.

Note:

• You can change this itinerary a little bit by staying in Duong Dong town at L’Azure Resort and Spa Phu Quoc for day 1 and day 2. This hotel can pick you up at the airport free of charge. You can visit Duong Dong town in day 1, and visiting Hon Thom island in day 2. In day 3 -4, you move to Ganh Dau to visit Grand World, Vinpearl Safari, Vin Wonders Phu Quoc and Ganh Dau beach. You can stay at Vinholidays Fiesta Phu Quoc.
• In day 5, you can come back to the Phu quoc airport depending on your flight by free shuttle bus or by taxi. By the way, the bus is always crowded. If you bring lots of luggage, it may be a bit inconvenient.
• In this itinerary, I chose the return flight to Ho Chi Minh on the 5th day because the flight of the 4th night at that time was quite expensive or departed quite early.

In summary, I recommended the detailed Phu Quoc 5 day – 4 night plan that I made. I hope, this itinerary would be useful for you in your upcoming trip to Phu Quoc. From that sample of the itinerary, you can develop it become your own plan such as Phu Quoc 4 day – 3 night itinerary or Phu Quoc 3 day – 2 night itinerary depending on your limited vacation.
