For me, this is an opportunity to develop myself. Learning new skills, new languages, improve weak skills or trying to make a very delicious cake that I delayed many times due to a busy daily life, why not?
Here are 7 good ways to help you overcome your boredom throughout the day at home during the complex development of Covid-19.
1. Reading books
How long haven’t you been reading a book or an ebook?
Do you remember the last time you read a book?
Maybe a busy life outside pushes us to follow it. Hard working, deadlines of new tasks, monthly targets at work, parties with friends or colleagues, updates on friends’ news on Facebook, Instagram,… It seems that we don’t have time to read an book, a kind of entertainment requiring much more time to finish, depending on how thick the book is.
So, now it’s time for you to enjoy some interesting books? why not?
Here are some books that you should not miss.
- Le Petit Nicolas (Little Nicholas)
A series of French children’s book was first published in 1959 by René Goscinny and Jean-Jacques Sempé. This book will give you cheery smiles by Nicolas’ personal sense of humour and funny illustration in every story. I laughed a lot when reading it.
- Heidi
Heidi is a story set in the Alps, was written by Johanna Spyri, an author of children’s stories, between 1879 and 1895. This work made Spyri famous as an outstanding writer of children’s literature.
- The Secret Garden
A novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett first published in 1911. It has been seen as a classic of English children’s literature.

- The Tale of Tom Kitten (free ebook)
The book was written in 1907 by Beatrix Potter, an English writer. She is best known for her children’s book featuring animals. Another similar books are The Tale of Tod, The Tale of Peter Rabbit (1902). Funny illustration and cute stories about animals would help you have funny moments.
- Les Misérables (The Miserable ones)
A French historical novel by Victor Hugo, one of the France’s greatest writers, first published in 1862. The story has been retold many times in a musical, in plays for radio and theater. That’s considered one of the greatest novels of the 19th century.
- O. Henry’s Short Stories
The stories was written by William S. Porter ‘O. Henry, an American short story author. One of O. Henry’s very famous short stories are The Last Leaves, The Cop and the Anthem, After Twenty Years.
- The Call of the Wild
Written in 1903, The Call of the Wild made Jack London become a famous American writer. The book is about the dangerous, frozen land of the north of Canada.
- Uncle Tom’s cabin
The novel was written by Harriet Elizabeth Beecher Stowe, an American writer, in 1852. The book sold over 300,000 copies a year after being published. Uncle Tom’s cabin is a story about Uncle Tom, a black slave and his people.
- David Copperfield
The novel was published in 1850, by Charles Dickens, often called the greatest English novelist of all time. David Copperfield is the most autobiographical novel.
- Tolstoy’s Short Stories
Written by Lev Nikolaevich Tolstoy, a Russian author. He is regarded as one of Russia’s greatest novelists. What Men Live By and Ivan, the Fool (1985) represent the best of Tolstoy’s short works.
- Sense and Sensibility
Written in 1811 by Jane Austen, an English author.
2.Learning a new language or improve your weak language
In the free time while staying at home to avoid inflection of Covid-19, you can study English or any new languages you want to get a job promotion or to suit your interest. There are many websites for you to choose. Among of them, Duolingo is the most popular language -learning platform and the most downloaded education app in the world, with more than 300 million users. This app provides you with many interesting stories and grammar, new vocabulary to practice language skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening skills).
Honestly, I am a fan of this app and I always love to learn from adventurous and interesting stories on Duolingo.
3. Discover yoga while staying home
If you have never done yoga before, why don’t you try this new sport? It’s very convenient for you to do everywhere, at any free time you have. You just need a yoga map. In case you forget to bring it, many yoga standing poses still help you to be good health, relieve stress, reduce muscle tension. Yoga is good not only for your physical healthy but also for your mental health. Youtube is one of the best channel from which you can learn yoga.
4. Learning the art of paper folding Origami
Origami is a traditional Japanese art of paper folding, spanning over 1000 years.
For whose who are attracted to this art, learning new techniques of Origami is a good way to entertain these days. You can create beautiful paper flowers or even hand-made pictures to decorate your room. Besides, you can play with your children while all members of family can learn together to create very cute animals. In the internet, there are many websites to guide how to make Origami. You just prepare colorful papers and follow instructions exactly to create things you like.
5. Planting vegetables, flowers
If you are tree lovers, you can spend much more time to take care your garden which you didn’t spend time taking care of it much each day. You can try to plant more vegetables or flowers by seeds bought from the supermarkets. Maybe after a short time, you would have a beautiful garden and full of clean vegetables for your meal.
6. Restart your passion that you have not time to practice before
When you were very young, you have spent all day just to draw or learn playing guitar. After many years, your passion was left behind to go to work for daily living expenses.
While staying at home to reduce close contact with people who may have corona virus, you can start to draw again or to study to play more new songs on your guitar.
7. Learning Chinese chess game
Playing Chinese chess with computer is also interesting. There are many apps that you can download to play. Discovering a new game that you have never tried before would make you have a busy day and feel excited when you can win the computer.
