Updates on travelling to Vietnam from another country

Travelers to Vietnam do not need to take any COVID-19 tests, fill in a Health Declaration form or quarantine when entering Vietnam.

Travel to Vietnam regulations

When you travel to Vietnam, you:

  • do NOT need to take any COVID-19 tests before you travel or on arrival in Vietnam
  • do NOT need to complete a Health Declaration form when you arrive in Vietnam
  • do NOT need to quarantine when you arrive.

This applies whether you are vaccinated or not.

Please note that some travel providers or the transport hub you travel through, may have travel rules in place. So, you need to check whether they require anything else or not.

As travelers arriving in Vietnam from abroad, you do not need to take a Covid test before you leave your country or on arrival in Vietnam

According to Government News, Deputy Prime Minister Vũ Đức Đam signed a Dispatch no. 416/CĐ-TTg on 13 May 2022 of Prime Minister about temporarily ceasing SARS-CoV-2 test requirements before entering Vietnam.

The decision was made because the daily number of new infections and fatalities in Vietnam has dipped significantly since 15 mar 2022 while the vaccination rate to prevent COVID-19 is high. In such a circumstance, Minister of Health has decided to eliminate Health Declaration requirement for all travelers to Vietnam from 27 April 2022.

Travelers entering Vietnam do not need to complete a Health Declaration form from 00:00 am 27 April 2022.

In according with the express dispatch no. 2118/BYT-DP dated 26 April 2022 signed by Deputy Minister of Health Nguyễn Trường Sơn, Ministry of Health specifies: Temporary suspension of filling in Health Declaration on COVID-19 at Vietnam’s all border gates for incoming travellers to Vietnam from 00:00 am 27 April 2022.

Travel rules for incoming travelers to Vietnam

Travel regulations of Ministry of Health for foreign tourists traveling to Vietnam are follows:

  • Have a negative covid test before departure (take a quick COVID-19 test within 24 hours, or RT-PCR test within 72 hours before departure). Children under 2 years of age are not required to take a covid test.
  • Complete a Health Declaration form before entry (at tokhaiyte.vn) and install PC-Covid application.
  • Have a medical or travel insurance covering Covid-19 treatment with insurance coverage amount at least 10.000 USD.
  • Have to regularly wear masks and sanitize hands
  • Self-monitor health for 10 days after entry.
  • For incoming air passengers, they shall no longer be obliged to take a Covid-19 test or quarantine on arrival in Vietnam.

Vietnam visa exemption for citizens of 13 countries.

From 15 mar 2022, the Vietnam government resumed visa exemption for citizens of 13 countries.

These countries are: Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the UK, Russia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Belarus.

The visa exemption policy shall only be applied for duration of stay of maximum 15 days from the date of arrival in Vietnam for these aforesaid citizens.

Besides, the policy of visa exemption shall only be applicable from 15 Mar 2022 to 14 Mar 2025 and may be considered for extension.

In case you are not a citizen of one of these 13 countries, it’s very easy for you to apply for Vietnam e-visa on the official website of Vietnam. This is National Web Portal on Immigration.

The e-visa fee for the length of stay of maximum 30 days costs 25usd only at this moment. It’s really cheap to compare with many websites which provide e-visa service for incoming tourists to Vietnam.

Please note that not all citizens of all countries can be eligible to apply for Vietnam e-visa. Please view the list of countries who have citizens eligible to apply for e-visa here. Currently there are citizens of 80 eligible countries in the list.

Vietnam e-visa is valid for one entry only for the duration of stay of maximum 30 days.
